Our mission is to organically transform dirt into vital, healthy, living soil
Truth be told, it's not what we do but what our hardworking Red Wigglers do! They deserve all of the credit.
The late vermicompost pioneer, Mary Appelhof, author of Worms Eat My Garbage. described it this way:
"Vermicompost is a biologically active mound containing thousands of bacteria, enzymes, and remnants of plant materials and animal manures that were not digested by the earthworm. The composting process continues after a worm casting has been deposited. In fact, the bacterial population of a cast is much greater than the bacterial population of either ingested soil, or the earthworm's gut."
In less scientific nomenclature, worms make something good, GREAT!

Think of this the next time you see a worm on the sidewalk:
“Nobody and nothing can be compared with earthworms in their positive influence on the whole living Nature. They create soil and everything that lives in it. They are the most numerous animals on Earth and the main creatures converting all organic matter into soil humus providing soil’s fertility and biosphere’s functions: disinfecting, neutralizing, protective and productive.”
- Anatoly M. Igonin21, Ph. D., Professor at the Vladimir Pedagogical University, Vladimir, Russia, as quoted in Casting Call 9(2), Aug 2004.
"My tree roses are over my head and fully loaded this year! Am so glad I used the castings in them! I'll continue this practice to revitalize the soil." Penye C.
"I have been using commercial fertilizer in my raised-bed vegetable garden for years. This season I switched to worm castings from Sierra Worm Farm and saw an immediate improvement in both the growth of my plants and in their yield. I mixed the castings into the soil and watered immediately, just before planting. It was an easy process and I’ve been very pleased with the results." Susan
We have humble beginnings at Sierra Worm Farm. We started with one, sixty foot windrow back in 2017 and a vision of offering premium worm castings as a superior alternative to using toxic chemicals in yards and gardens. We've since expanded to flow through systems, making our end product even better.
We are a woman owned, small family run business located in the heart of the "Breadbasket of the World" -the Central Valley, Visalia, California.
Vermicompost is an excellent quality soil additive or compost tea starter. Vermicomposting tweaks the benefits of traditional composting with the help of some unlikely facilitators -- earthworms. Advantages of vermicompost include enriching soil, increasing harvest yields and suppressing plant disease. Use in the
garden, greenhouse, or field and give your plants a boost, compliments of our hard working red wigglers.
Vermicompost provides plants with essential nutrients and aids in the suppression of plant diseases. Worm castings contain five times more nitrogen, seven times more phosphorus, and 11 times more potassium than ordinary soil, the main minerals needed for plant growth.
Suggested application rate is 1 part vermicompost to 10 parts planting medium.
Worm castings feed your soil, so plants grown in soil with worm castings have more vitality. Fruits and vegetables are more delicious and nutritious. Plants need less water. They are healthier and therefore, you will be too!
